There are two main goals for our Café
- To create an environment which will address issues of isolation and loneliness among older people
- To enable adults with learning disabilities to gain work skills.
Providing a café for Centre users and local residents will expand volunteering opportunities for those with learning disabilities. Working with one of our partner organisations, Prospects, adults with learning disabilities will be trained in food preparation and hygiene, specifically to enable them to gain work experience through preparing and serving food at the Neighbourhood Centre. This will lead to greater understanding of issues surrounding learning disabilities, and help volunteers progress to meaningful employment. Overall there will be increased opportunities for young and old people to engage with each other in a friendly setting, leading to greater understanding across generations and abilities.
