St Catherine’s Church has recently taken part in the A Rocha UK’s Eco Church Award Scheme. This happened because we want to demonstrate that the gospel is good news for God’s earth.
Through this scheme, members will become aware of many initiatives for the church community to be a part of. This will help us all (personally and as a wider community) to be even more environmentally conscious than we currently are.
As part of this, during Lent, we are inviting you to take the St Catherine’s Challenge!
Please download our Lent Challenge Calendar here. Each day there are suggested activities for you and your family to engage with.
If you already do the suggested action/ activity, pledge to go further. For instance, if you don’t, use a bamboo toothbrush, on 4th March you will be asked to pledge that you will change your plastic one for a bamboo one when it becomes unusable.
Also, we’re not advocating that on 25th April, you look at your food storage container cupboard and empty it of anything plastic! Please do pledge that when containers become unusable, replace with an alternative. The most earth friendly response towards plastic you already own, is re-use, re-use, re-use.
It is not expected that every action is completed on the given day – otherwise there is a danger that on 5th March, there won’t be a single bamboo toothbrush anywhere in Tilehurst!
Let me know if you have any queries about the challenge, please just ask !
