Operation Christmas Child 2021

Operation Christmas child is a way of bringing some Christmas cheer to a poor, needy or suffering child.

The idea is to fill a shoebox with small gifts, (please read the leaflet carefully about what is acceptable) and add a donation of £5 or more towards transport costs.

A simple shoebox gift packed with love and fuelled by prayer can have a huge impact!

If you have trouble getting a shoebox, we have a supply of flat pack boxes already decorated for 50pence each.

We are an official collecting point for filled Shoeboxes.

Alternatively, you can ‘pack’ a Shoebox online at: https://shoeboxonline.samaritans-purse.org.uk/

Click here to see the fantastic shoeboxes we collected two years ago.

We are also holding a special service to gather the filled Shoeboxes, when you can hear more about what happens to the filled boxes.

Date – Sunday 21st November

Time – 10.00 am with refreshments after the service.

Place – St Catherine’s Church,      Wittenham Avenue, RG31 5LN.

Alternatively you can bring Shoeboxes to St Catherine’s Church or Cornwell 0-5 Play Group anytime before 21st November.

Harvest Service – 26th September ’21

This year’s Harvest Service will be held on 26th September at 10am.

We will be supporting the charity Send-a-Cow who provide tools and education for farming in Africa.

Financial gifts to ‘Send A Cow’ can be made online by going to https://sendacow.org/donate-now/give-a-donation/ and putting in our church reference AM5101 at the bottom in the ‘let us know why….’ box.  OR just put cash in the special collection plate.

We’re also collecting tinned/packet goods, for Readifood.

Refreshments will be served in the hall at end of the service. Followed by ‘Spud lunch’ at 12.30pm with choice of fillings – chilli, cheese, beans or tuna, and salad.

Cat’s Cartoon Club – October 2021

We’re really excited to announce that Cats Cartoon Club is going to start meeting in person. We meet for the first time on Saturday 2nd October at 4pm in the Church Hall. We’re watching ‘Luca’ which is a really great family film so we hope all ages will feel free to come along and enjoy this film together.

You can see a trailer for the film here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYfJxlgR2jw

  • 17th, 24th & 31st December (Christmas break)

Helping Afghan refugees

Many of you will have seen Rev Gill’s email about helping Afghan refugees in this area. We are very grateful for the response that many of you have already made.

As various agencies work together, we ask that all your offers of help or donations go through West Berkshire (click below for more details) or chat to Gill first.

Cornwell Toddler Group restarting

Cornwell 0-5s Toddler Group is re-starting on Tuesday September 14th.

We are a friendly toddler group in Tilehurst, run by St Catherine’s Church, meeting at the Cornwell Centre (off Home Croft, Clements Mead, RG31 5WJ). 10am-12noon Term Time Only

  • Tuesdays 10am – 12noon (Families only)
  • Thursdays 10am – 12noon (Childminders only)

Each week we put out a wide & varied selection of toys including ride on scooters, bikes & cars. We have an art and craft table which varies week to week. We also have a singing/story time.

Healthy snacks for children on Tuesday sessions. Tea, Coffee, Biscuits for grown-ups are provided on both days.

BUT at least until half-term we have to limit the numbers to 15 ‘Bubbles’. On Tuesdays that’s a family group (child with parent/grandparent). On Thursdays a childminder with their charges. To avoid turning anyone away at the door we are in the process of setting up a booking system with Eventbrite through the Church page:  https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/…/st-catherines-church… .

Whilst the sessions will be marked ‘Free’ to avoid Eventbrite charges, we have held our price at £3 per session (payable ‘on the door’) but are now able to take card payments as well as cash. A further announcement on this page together with an email to everyone on our distribution list will follow next week with more information.

We do look forward to meeting up again!

Lyfe Course

We are starting a Lyfe Bible Study in St Catherine’s Church beginning on Monday 20th September at 2pm.  We will be using the same material as the Wednesday Zoom Bible studies – The Lyfe material. It consists of teaching by video followed by discussion, led by Gill.  But, of course, this will all be in person!

If you’d like to come, or know more, please email us

Places are no longer restricted and absolutely everyone is welcome.
